Terms of Use & Disclaimer

Last updated: July 7, 2026

Thanks for using Fire Inquire. Please read this page — it explains what Fire Inquire is, what it isn't, and the terms you agree to by using it. It's written in plain language on purpose. By using this site, you agree to these terms.

What Fire Inquire is

Fire Inquire is a free, independent tool that gathers publicly available government open data to help you plan outdoor activities in British Columbia and Alberta. For a location you search, it tries to show the current fire danger rating, campfire and open-burning bans or restrictions, and nearby active wildfires.

What Fire Inquire is NOT

Fire Inquire is not an official or authoritative source of fire information. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the BC Wildfire Service, Alberta Wildfire, the governments of British Columbia or Alberta, any regional district or municipality, or albertafirebans.ca. It is a personal project and a planning aid only.

This site is currently a prototype and may display a frozen or cached snapshot of data rather than live, real-time information. Fire conditions, bans, and restrictions can change at any time, sometimes within hours.

The official sources always win

The official government sources are the only authoritative word on fire danger, bans, and restrictions. They always take precedence over anything shown on Fire Inquire. Before you light, build, or maintain any fire — or make any decision where fire safety matters — you must confirm the current rules for your exact location with the official sources:

No guarantees (disclaimer of warranties)

Fire Inquire is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. We make no promises or warranties of any kind, express or implied, about the site or its information — including no promise that it is accurate, complete, current, reliable, or fit for any particular purpose. The information may be delayed, outdated, incomplete, wrong, or unavailable due to caching, bugs, gaps in coverage, missed zones, or errors in the underlying government data. To the fullest extent allowed by law, we disclaim all such warranties.

Use at your own risk (limitation of liability)

You use Fire Inquire entirely at your own risk. You are solely responsible for your own decisions and actions regarding fire, and for confirming the current rules with the official sources before acting.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Fire Inquire and its creator will not be liable for any loss, damage, injury, cost, fine, penalty, or other consequence — whether direct, indirect, incidental, special, or consequential — arising from your use of, reliance on, or inability to use this site or its information. This includes (without limitation) fines or penalties for burning during a ban, property damage, personal injury, or wildfire, even if the information shown here was outdated, incomplete, or incorrect.

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes any liability that cannot be limited or excluded under applicable law.

Third-party data and links

Fire Inquire relies on open data and links provided by third parties, including the governments of British Columbia and Alberta. We don't control that data or those sites and aren't responsible for their content, accuracy, or availability. See the data attributions below.

Changes

Fire Inquire is under active development. We may change, suspend, or discontinue the site or these terms at any time without notice. Continued use after changes means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of British Columbia and the applicable laws of Canada.
